Ferulic acid is known for being a strong anti-oxidant which slows down skin ageing processes that occur as the influence of:

  • solar radiation,
  • urban pollution,
  • stress,
  • unhealthy lifestyle (unbalanced diet, sleep deprivation, etc.)

Moreover, ferulic acid replenishes skin with water, and stimulates collagen and elasticin fibres synthesis. Additionally, this acid reduces the visibility of redness and discolorations due to its soothing and anti-inflammatory action.

It’s also worth mentioning that ferulic acid is added to many cosmetics such as anti-age creams, sunscreens, body scrubs and preparations destined for seborrheic and acne-prone skin types.

How does ferulic acid treatment look like?

The most popular beauty treatment where ferulic acid is used is peeling. In order to prepare oneself for the procedure, it’s advised to resign from sunbathing, applying self-tanning creams, removing hair and applying wax in a few days before the scheduled treatment.

Ferulic acid treatment to begin with precise skin degreasing. After that skin can be coated with the first layer of peeling. This layer has to be massaged until a white coat appears on the skin. Then another layer of the cosmetic follows that, optionally, can be combined with a serum. The serum features extra active substances such as retinol or vitamin C.

Ferulic acid treatment – indications & contraindications

Ferulic acid peeling is recommended for people who struggle with the visible signs of skin photo-ageing, skin suppleness and elasticity loss, or with discolorations. Other indications include acne, seborrhoea and freckles.

On the other hand, when it comes to the contraindications to ferulic acid treatment, they include: skin irritations and medications taking (retinoid and other substances with vitamin A as their main ingredient). This procedure isn’t carried out on pregnant and breastfeeding women.
