How NOT to Care for Your Face? TOP Skin Care Mistakes

by Monic Bert

You might think that since we live in the modern world of technology and Internet everybody knows what the best skin care routine involves. Sadly, it isn’t so simple. Here are the most common skin care mistakes we make.

Skipping neck and chest skin

These skin areas are extremely thin so they age very quickly. Skipping them in beauty care is a common mistake – both when you use a micellar water and apply skin care products to your face.

The wrong choice of cosmetics

Strongly-working products for dry or sensitive skin, too greasy and clogging cosmetics for oily skin or lack of enough nutrients for dehydrated skin – it is one of the most popular skin care mistakes. Before choosing a product, you must determine your skin type because a mis-matched preparation causes harm no matter how spectacular ingredients and reviews it has.

Over-drying oily skin

Oily skin needs precise cleansing both in the morning and evening. In order to normalize the secretion of oil, we reach for harsh dehydrating products with alcohol which force skin to intensified production of sebum. Sebum is a natural barrier protecting skin from dehydration, therefore, the body aims at keeping this barrier. It’s a vicious circle – the more you fight with your oily skin, the more oil it produces.

No moisturizer for oily skin

In order to keep the skin from excessive oil production, you must moisturize it regularly. To make it possible, get moisturizers dedicated to oily skin. Beware! You must apply them before sleep too! Many women think that it is unnecessary or even inadvisable – they wrongly believe that oily skin moisturizes itself. Moreover, night creams repair and nourish the skin.

Insufficient or no use of scrubs and masks

Each and every skin type needs them so use them once a week. Acne skin owners should give up on coarse-grain scrubs for enzyme exfoliators or microdermabrasion – in this way, they can avoid irritations, spreading inflammation and enlarged pores.

Water and soap for a wash

Washing your skin with water and soap is extremely bad for its condition: it leaves dry skin drier whereas leads to intensified oil production in oily skin. That is why use micellar water, lotions and toners instead of the notorious duo.

Improper sensitive skin care

In the case of sensitive skin, you must forget all products containing fragrances and colorants. Hypoallergenic products make the best choice. The list of the forbidden products must be complemented by retinol and alcohol-infused products as well as physical scrubs intensively rubbing the skin. Using these products leads to micro-damage of the skin.

Facial extraction

Popping pimples or blackheads is a really bad idea because it leads to the spread of inflammation and the break in the continuity of skin, that is scarring. Even beauty salons are turning their back on manual facial extractions! Instead, you should always carry a topical acne treatment which soothes skin at the same time.

Testing new products too often

When you keep changing your skin products, it won’t benefit your skin. In order to evaluate the effect of a cosmetic, you must apply it for min. three months. Of course, if a product doesn’t serve your skin and irritates it e.g. making it dry, you must discontinue using it.

Skipping an eye cream

Many women don’t use eye creams. Some of them forget whereas other think that the under-eye skin doesn’t require a separate cosmetic so they treat it to a regular moisturizer. The skin under your eyes is several dozens thinner than the facial skin, it’s also more gentle and sensitive so it ages more quickly. That is why applying an eye serum should be obligatory after turning 20.

The wrong way of applying cosmetics

How you apply products affects the state of your skin as well so never tighten, tug or rub your skin. Doing so results in nothing but irritations and redness.

Not washing makeup brushes, sponges and other accessories regularly

You must regularly wash your makeup tools – powder and blush brushes, foundation sponges! The cosmetics builds up on them together with dirt and dust. All this makes up a perfect treat for bacteria so your accessories will lead to skin irritation and acne breakouts instead of flawless makeup.
