The Best DIY Hair-Repair Masks

by Monic Bert

Hair tends to be playful and rebellious especially when seasons are changing or when it’s exposed to damaging external factors (harsh temps, scorching heat, dry air of heaters). It starts falling out. Hair is dull, coarse and unruly. To make things worse, most hair products contain comedogenic dehydrating alcohols and mineral oil. Luckily, you can make natural masks, made up of food ingredients that we all have at home, which are the best products to quickly nourish the hair.

DIY hair masks – recipes

Homemade hair masks are natural, safe, non-irritative, have a beautiful smell and deliver a stunning hair repair.

Here are the most interesting ideas for at-home hair repair.

Homemade honey, yoghurt & coconut hair mask

Mix a tablespoon of honey, plain yoghurt and coconut oil. Apply to your hair and scalp, leave in for 20 mins, rinse out and wash off with a shampoo. The mask is a rich source of proteins, vitamins and minerals. It delivers nutrients and repairs all hair types.

Egg & coconut hair shine mask

Mix one egg white with a teaspoon of coconut oil (unrefined, organic, cold-pressed). Let it sit in hair for fifteen mins, next rinse it out and shampoo the hair. This mask coats your hair with a delicate protective layer and gives a good conditioning, boosting the shine and nourishing at the same time.

Avocado & olive hair mask

It is a truly-regenerating vitamin bomb which nourishes and repairs the strands. Moreover, thanks to olive oil, the mask ensures an amazing hair shine and great scalp care.

Smash one ripe soft avocado with a fork and add around 50 ml of coconut milk. Mix it with two spoons of olive oil, mix well for a smooth, a quite thick formula. Apply the mask to hair, leave in for 30 mins, rinse out and use a mild shampoo.

Lemon & strawberry hair mask

It is perfect for oily hair – fruity acids regulate pH on the scalp, keep the hair clean and shiny. Mix 6-7 smashed strawberries with lemon or grapefruit juice (1-2 spoons).

Banana, yoghurt & honey hair mask

A brilliant repairing compress for dry damaged hair. The mask is deeply-nourishing, regenerating and shine-boosting. It has an enchanting scent, too. Mix one ripe banana, a spoon of honey, a spoon of yoghurt. Enrich the mixture with a few drops of a fave natural hair oil. Let the mask sit in for around twenty minutes. Next, rinse it out well and wash your hair.
