Makeup removal cosmetics – which one to choose?

by Monic Bert

beauty.jpgMakeup removal is an intrinsic part of wearing makeup – the first one cannot be omitted by any woman who cares about the condition and appearance of her complexion (for ladies who do not apply makeup, cleansing will suffice). The range of products designed for makeup remover is very wide, so it is difficult to make the right choice. Makeup cosmetics should be adapted to the type and needs of the skin. We’ll tell you how to do it.

Cosmetics for removing makeup – composition

When choosing a cosmetic for makeup removal, we are guided by criteria such as its composition, consistency, brand, and price. It seems that the most important determinant is the composition, because it decides which makeup removal cosmetics meet the needs of our complexion.

Each facial makeup remover should contain additional substances, ie:

  • moisturizers, such as plant and fruit extracts, betaine, allantoin, glycerin, lecithin and urea,
  • oiling, for example, lanolin, paraffin and waxes and vegetable butter,
  • nourishing and regenerating, including panthenol, aloe vera, and vitamins A and E.

Cosmetics for removing makeup vs. skin type

Cosmetics for removing make-up should be chosen in a way to match the type of complexion. If it is oily, the product should contain green tea, tea tree extracts, salicylic acid, sulfur, green clay or sage and an oak bark extract. In the case of normal skin, you can use any type of cosmetics depending entirely on your preferences. With dry skin, it is worth remembering about regular moisturizing and oiling. For this reason, you should consume large amounts of water and avoid the sun, as well as the alcohol-based toners and washing your face with soap. To take care of oily skin, it is worth reaching for face toners and antibacterial soaps. Even oily skin can be dehydrated, so do not overdo it with cleansing.

The most problems are caused when it comes to combination skin, because this type of skin requires the use of different preparations depending on the face part. The so-called “T-zone”, ie the forehead, nose and chin, should be mattified, but the cheeks on the contrary – moisturized. The acne skin should be examined by a dermatologist, because a battle with blemishes can result in long-lasting scars.

Makeup removal of sensitive skin is also problematic. In order to purify it, it is best to use pharmaceutical preparations dedicated to the sensitive or atopic skin. Although they are more expensive, it brings the desired effects. It is worth avoiding cosmetics with alcohol. In turn, capillary skin does not like sun, sauna and warming preparations. Keep this in mind if you care about its good condition.

Makeup removal cosmetics – types

Makeup removal cosmetics are divided into two groups.

The first group of cosmetics for removing makeup contains “dissolving” ingredients and consequently gets rid of makeup. They are oily substances and such preparations are applied by means of cotton pads. The makeup removal is to be performed by circular movements.

The second group of makeup removers contains surface-active substances that are responsible for removing dirt. Such products require the use of water which means that the cosmetic should be rinsed off the face.

The first group of makeup removal cosmetics includes lotions, bi-phase products, and micellar water as well as toners and makeup removal wipes.

Cosmetic lotion for makeup removal

their pH is adjusted to the slightly acidic pH of the skin. The lotions are gentle in action and soothe irritations. They are available in many variants depending on the type of skin. What’s more, like every emulsion, they consist of two phases combined with an emulsifier: water and oil.

Bi-phase lotions for removing makeup

they effectively remove waterproof makeup. The composition is similar to cosmetic lotions, but they do not contain emulsifiers, therefore they are not an emulsion, but a liquid with visible phase separation. As a result, there is an oil layer at the top and a water layer at the bottom. Shake it before use so that the phases combine.

Micellar water for makeup removal

The molecules of active substances form spherical aggregates with the smallest surface of contact with water, are called micelles. Micellar water effectively removes impurities and restores the skin’s slightly acidic reaction, therefore it can replace the facial toner. What’s more, such products have a light formula, so they do not leave a greasy film on the skin.

Makeup removal toners

they are aimed at improving and restoring the proper pH of the skin. In addition, they have antibacterial, astringent and soothing properties and remove the remains of makeup that is soluble in water. They are based on an aqueous alcohol solution enriched with plant extracts and ingredients for a specific skin type. The acid reaction are provided by substances such as citric acid, lactic acid, boric acid and vitamin C.

Makeup removal wipes

they are soaked with a makeup remover and as a result, are ready for direct use. Their use consists in wiping out the impurities, which, however, can cause irritation and contribute to the formation of wrinkles. On the other hand, makeup remover wipes are irreplaceable during trips and holidays due to the convenience of use.

The second group of cosmetics for removing makeup includes gels for face washing as well as bars and washing foams.

Facial Gels

they are suitable for all skin types. It should be noted that they do not contain sodium chloride (Sodium Chloride) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) that tend to be irritating to the skin.

Face washing bars

should differ in composition from the popular soap bars, that is, instead of soap, or salts of higher fatty acids (Potassium Stearate, Sodium Palmate), they contain mild washing agents, such as sulfosuccinates (Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate).

Face washing foams

they are facilitated with a foaming applicator, thanks to which they contain fewer preservatives and thickeners. In turn, they have been enriched with delicate cleansing agents that effectively and gently remove makeup and impurities from the face, as well as suitable moisturizing and soothing agents selected for the given skin type.
