How to take care of the skin in the eye area?

Keeping the skin around the eyes in good shape is one of the biggest struggles many women must face because even though there are no blackheads or enlarged pores in this area, we have to deal with dark under-eye shadows, swelling, puffiness, and wrinkles. Why? Because this area of skin is extremely thin – its thickness is only half a millimeter, which is four times less than the skin of the rest of the face. No wonder that an unhealthy lifestyle and the passage of time are particularly visible in that area. How to take care of the skin around the eyes? What should the care of the skin around the eyes of 20-year-olds, 30-year-olds, and 40-year-olds look like?

How to care for the skin around the eyes?

The skin around the eyes is almost completely devoid of sebaceous glands, and thus – also the water-lipid coat. For this reason, it is not able to moisturize itself. While the skin of children and young people is optimally hydrated, the problem occurs in adulthood; the passage of time and long-term exposure to harmful factors such as cigarette smoke or UV radiation cause that over time, the skin under the eyes becomes drier and thinner. What’s more, the daily facial muscles motion leaves permanent mimic wrinkles very quickly.

In addition, you might see blood vessels showing through the thin skin, which results in purple-violet circles and tired-looking eyes. Factors such as the sleepless night, fatigue or an intense lifestyle deepen the problem of under-eye shadows and make the face older-looking. Fortunately, there are ways to remedy this; correct care that’s adapted to the changing needs of the skin and a healthy lifestyle will significantly improve the condition of the skin under the eyes.

Skin care around the eyes of a 20-year-old girl

The earlier we start taking care of the skin under the eyes, the better will be its condition in the future. Twenty-year-olds should regularly moisturize the skin around the eyes and implement good care habits, that is:

  • perform a gentle make-up removal (instead of rubbing the skin with a cotton pad);
  • get enough sleep each night;
  • avoid cigarette smoke and excessive exposure to the sun (sun glasses are advisable).
    Regular application of a moisturizing cream will provide the skin around the eyes with optimal hydration and protect it from the premature appearance of wrinkles.
Eye cream for 20-year-olds

In most cases, at the age of 20, you can apply the same cream that you use to the entire face. However, because the skin under the eyes is very sensitive, you may not like your face cream, especially if it is alcohol-based or has a mattifying effect. In this case, the purchase of a cream intended specifically for the skin around the eyes will be necessary.

Cosmetics for the skin around the eyes for a 20-year-old should contain hyaluronic acid, glycerin, vitamin B3 (i.e., d-panthenol) and moisturizing and soothing plant extracts, for example,  baobab seeds extract, chamomile or cornflower.

Skin care around the eyes of a 30-year-old

Around the age of 30, the skin under the eyes starts having the first care requirements. When each sleepless night results in swellings and the skin under the eyes gets dry, it is time to reach for the cosmetics that will nourish and tone the skin.

Eye cream for 30-year-olds

It is worth using cosmetics with marine collagen on a daily basis. Such products intensively moisturize and gently tighten the skin. Cosmetics containing ceramides don’t only nourish, but also improve the absorption of other active ingredients. In addition, once a week it is worth using special beautifying and conditioning under-eye patches that will have a positive effect on the skin’s elasticity. Before using it is worth cooling them in the freezer, which will stimulate microcirculation of the blood and reduce swelling and bruising.

There are other ways to dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. To strengthen the skin under the eyes, use preparations with vitamin C, pomegranate and licorice. Vitamin C supports the blood vessels and sweeps away free radicals, the pomegranate fruit is a strong antioxidant, which therefore prevents swelling, while licorice protects against solar radiation and has a brightening effect. Dark circles under the eyes will e reduced thanks to arbutin, vitamin B3, coffee and tea extract, licorice and extracts from other herbs, for example, eyebright, sage or arnica. Remember you must be patient and wait to see the effects of a treatment when it comes to these areas of the skin.

Skin care around the eyes of a 40-year-old

With age, the skin becomes more and more demanding, also so the skin around the eyes. Therefore, it needs ingredients with very intensive action, such as retinol (vitamin A), plant extracts (especially from seaweed and caviar), adenosine, phytohormones, as well as probiotics obtained in the fermentation process, for example, bifida ferment lisate. Caviar extract is a rich source of proteins and vitamins, especially A and E, while adenosine prevents muscle cramps and, as a result, smoothes out small wrinkles and prevents the formation of new ones.

Eye cream for 40-year-olds

After the age of 40, the use of an eye cream is essential. During the application, it is worth performing a gentle massage that will improve blood microcirculation. Collagen-infused under eye patches are also a good solution because they maintain the elasticity of the skin. You can do the latter yourself; in order to do so, cut a cotton pad in half and soak it in a skin-firming serum. Put it on the skin around the eyes and hold for several minutes.
