Frequent baths in the sea or the swimming pool can help us to refresh and relax, but at the same time, they weaken the protective effect of the natural hydro-lipid coat. We are perfectly aware of this.
In the summer, we focus primarily on the protection of our body and hair, forgetting about the part of the body that is most exposed to various types of harmful factors – the hands. Time to catch up and learn how to take care of your hands in the summer!
What threatens the hand skin in the summer?
Unprotected, deprived of proper moisture and exposed to the sun, water and salt…the condition of our hands can significantly weaken. As a result,

- is dull and gray.
Hand care – the basics
In the summer, we cannot forget about the standard care, that is all those activities that are repeated throughout the year – nourishing nails and cuticles, filing and painting nails. We should always carry a hand cream and use it whenever needed, and once a week, apply a hand mask to provide the skin with maximum hydration. Let’s remember that all activities must be delicate, manicure done with the use of proper tools, and cosmetics as natural as possible to help the hands instead of harming them.
How to take care of your hands in the summer?
We present five principles that will easily demonstrate how to care for your hands in the summer. If you stick to them, your hands will surely maintain the proper hydration and will be silky smooth, and the scorching sun will no longer be a threat.
1. Wash your hands in cool water only
As a matter of fact, warm water contributes to losing moisture because it promotes sluicing out the protective hydro-lipid layer on the skin surface. Therefore, it is better to use cool stream no only to prevent that but also to cool yourself down on a hot day. It’s an easy way for instant refreshment.
2. Use a hand cream after each wash
Even cool water can accelerate the drying of the hand, therefore the foundation of care is applying the cream daily – even in the summer. However, it is worth choosing hand creams of a lighter and less oily consistency, which are quickly absorbed, leaving no greasy feeling. Freshness is the most important in the summer, which is why a good summer cream should have a gel consistency. It’s good if it abounds in vitamins and minerals that nourish as well as urea that maintains an adequate level of moisture.
3. Don’t forget about a sunblock for your hands
We are getting better and better with sun protection and regularly use creams with UV filters. Unfortunately, our hands do not use their protective properties because after each application of a cream with a filter … we wash the hands with running water. As it turns out, it’s totally unnecessarily. It is worth waiting until the sunscreen absorbs into the skin of your hands. If its consistency is too oily, we can buy a hand cream with the addition of ingredients protecting against the sun.
4. Get yourself gel nails
Care is one thing, but aesthetics are also important. In summer, you may not have enough time to paint your nails regularly, and frequent hand dipping in the water accelerates cracking and destroying the nail polish. A perfect solution is to get gel nails that are durable and strengthen the natural nail plate. You can have them done in a beauty salon, but you can also invest in a UV lamp or LED lamp and make a such a manicure yourself.
5. Apply a homemade mask to your hands
Every once in a while (eg every week) it is worth reaching for something stronger than just a regular hand cream. Readymade lotions, masks or moisturizing and regenerative ampoules can be found in every drugstore. You can also prepare a homemade mask for your hands yourself! Try using mashed potatoes combined with coconut oil and olive oil, or with the addition of marigold infusion. Any mix of nutrients is enough to apply to your hands for 20 minutes to nourish the skin and enhance softness.
A useful trick – just add some sea salt or brown sugar to your home mask to turn it into a smoothing and nourishing hand scrub.
