Dermatologists’ Clever Ways to Look Younger after Waking Up

It turns out that skin doesn’t need much to look better. Check tried and tested easy tricks used and recommended by dermatologists – up to two weeks are enough to make your face look younger and radiant.

1. Always, without any exceptions, make sure your skin is perfectly clean in the evening. Micellar water is not enough for precise cleansing. It’s just a small step in real makeup removal. To really purify your skin before sleep, reach for a face cleanser, foam or gel after the micellar water. Don’t forget to use a toner either.

2. In your nighttime beauty routine, feed some active substances to your skin. Retinoids are the secret weapon dermatologists use to fight for skin youthfulness and suppleness. They are mostly recommended for mature, tired skin which loses firmness and density. Retinoids in anti-wrinkle products enhance the appearance of skin and its elasticity, reduce lines and smooth the skin. Thanks to retinoids, all pigmentation spots vanish, too. Retinol co-creates blood vessels which deliver nutrients and oxygen to the connective tissue and epidermis, keeping the skin tone nice and fresh.

3. Try out a nighttime facial mask. It’s one of the latest beauty trends which is infallible if you want to wake up with a fresh-looking, rested, radiant skin. The best night masks are sheet masks – soaked with a strongly-concentrated serum, they are lighter than creamy masks and treatments. They work more intensively, not weighing down skin or clogging the pores. The sheet mask stays in place all night long contrary to creamy products which transfer from your face to the bed sheets or hair. In order to make the effect even better – apply a rich night cream first to increase absorption, soften skin and help nutrients penetrate more easily.

4. Get the right sleeping position. It might sound awkward but there are studies which prove that years of sleeping with your face pressed to the pillow makes wrinkles appear more quickly, especially on face parts that have constant contact with the pillow. Consequently, your skin experiences a lot of pressure and creasing every single night.

5. Massage your face – it is a free, natural and truly effective trick which lets you bring back the firmness, tighten the skin and smooth fine lines. Similarly to all body parts, the face is built of strings of muscles which go limp and sag with the passing time – a massage and proper exercises e.g. face yoga improve skin texture and lift it so skin is not so vulnerable to gravity. Muscles are more elastic, the face shape is enhanced, sagging cheeks are gone. The devotees of massage and yoga say that the effects are striking after just two weeks of exercising. It takes little time – a few minutes a day for surprising results.

6. The air that you breathe matters for your skin, too. Turn on a humidifier in the evening. It is the most important in the winter when dry heated air takes moisture away from your skin. Extremely dry skin which is deprived of hydration – the first cause of wrinkles and aging skin.

7. Get your beauty sleep. The best skin-rejuvenating therapy. The sufficient amount of sleep works wonders. The influence of sleep on human well-being and good looks has been scientifically proven. Too little sleep triggers the increase of the stress hormone – cortisol. This leads e.g. to the dissolution of collagen which ensures skin elasticity and youthfulness. Less collagen means more wrinkles. Research findings in 2015 showed that women who slept 7-9 hours a day looked younger, their skin was more moisturised and they liked their appearance more than those sleeping 5 hours.

8. Moisturise your skin from within – drinking the right amount of mineral water is the best anti-aging treatment. Every dermatologist agrees that water is like a miraculous skin-rejuvenating medicine. Drink it all day; put a glass of water by your bed and have a big sip before nodding off.
