If you don’t know which cosmetic to pick – one in a jar or tube – you’re not alone. Many people think that products packed in plastic are extremely bad for the environment. Still, plastic packs do differ. Actually every packaging leaves the so-called ecological footprint.
Functions and types of cosmetic containers
- packaging protects product from impurities and prevents it from going off;
- type of container affects the way of using the product;
- glass is an alternative for plastic but its processing has a big impact on the environment;
- biodegradable materials don’t ensure enough product protection even though they are eco-friendly;

What’s ecodesign?
Ecodesign consists in reducing number of multicomponent and decorated containers. Recycling is impossible mostly because of permanent paint on the entire surface of a container, black color, decorations, strong glue. Customer demand for luxury-looking products is a challenge for ecodesign. Plastic has been used in the cosmetic industry for around 60 years and still no replacement material has been found.
